FAQs
Common piano tuning questions
How often should I have my piano tuned?
Ideally, a piano kept in the home should be tuned every 6-12 months to keep it in good condition. Pianos that have been left longer than that can require more work and have a greater risk of string damage during tunings.
If the piano is being kept in a commercial or public setting, it should be tuned based on usage and how important the sound of the piano is to its purpose there.
What is a pitch raise?
When a piano is very old or hasn’t been tuned in a long time, it can become so far out of tune that to get it back in tune takes multiple rounds of tuning. This is called a pitch raise. If you don’t want to pay for a pitch raise, you can tune the piano at its current pitch, but this will cause the piano to sound out of tune when played with any other instrument.
Will my piano need a pitch raise?
If your piano has been kept in a good environment, you can expect that a pitch raise will be required when the piano hasn’t been tuned for 4-5 years. If the piano has been left in worse conditions such as in a shed or outside it may require one after only 1-2 years.
How long does it take to tune my piano?
Generally, it will take between 2.5-3 hours for a tuning.
